I am so damn happy that I got to see this in person.  I literally cried.  No one deserved it more than Shane.  He is amaze.

Yandle was freaking the hell out.  Those two have a special bond and I firmly believe that Shane will be handing that C down to Yandsy whenever he decides to move on to curing leprosy and raising the dead full-time.

Speaking of the dead, Marty had an off-ice workout Friday.  This means he’s dead for at least another week or so.  Mother F.  :(

Boyd is actually skating, so that’s something positive.

David Rundblad wrote on his personal blog that he was being sent down to the AHL.  I saw him before the game, walking down the street by the Job and I went OMG that’s David!  Jon immediately says “Do you want me to swing around so you can go say hi?”.  He’s the best dude ever (Jon, not David).  I passed on the opportunity.  With Schlem getting hurt, I still think he gets sent down, depending on how Oakie’s face is.

Raffi returned from his two game suspension.  :/  He could score 9 hat tricks and I’d still hate him.  He’s dangerous and stupid and that is a bad combo.  If you do something questionable, you keep your damn nose clean for …………. nevermind, it’s wasted typing, just…….. ugh.

Oliver led the team in ice time with just over 24 minutes.  Yands was second with 22:06.  Olli had a goal and an assist as well.  Careful Yands, there may be a new top Dman in town soon.

Marc-Antoine Pouliot won 8 of his 9 faceoffs.  He didn’t have any major screwups either.  I hope he sticks around for a bit.  He’s got a lil sumpin-sumpin.

Chipchurra won 10 of his 17 faceoffs, which isn’t shabby.  He’s shown consistency, but we are still dying to get Boyd and He Who Shall Not Be Name Or I Will Return To My Epic Depression back.

Things are seeming bleak and my interest in hockey is at an all-time low.  I just feel so MEH about it.  I used to be upset when we lost.  LIKE SUPER CAPSLOCKY, THREATENING TO KILL PEOPLE, AND POSSIBLY MYSELF- KIND OF UPSET.  But now?  Meh.  I don’t really expect us to win.

This is the season of my discontent.

Went from D-E-D to D-E-A-D. And as you know, as goes Hanzal, as goes AJ.

Marty’s head is dead.  Thank God I was holding @BabyYotesFan or I may have actually made the leap to the ice……. from upstairs.  When someone did that to Prucha, Marty stood up for him.  There was no one to stand up for Marty.  I see.

The team isn’t saying much, which leads me to think it’s a concussion.  Just another reason I’m crawling up on my soapbox about player safety and controlling bad hits.  The game is dangerous enough without allowing dirty players to throw potentially dangerous hits.

Which leads me to Raffi Torres.  You can like him all you want, but I refuse to be an apologist just because he is on our team.  You can Youtube all his previous dirty hits and he’s thrown two in the last two games.  I will never cheer for him, no matter what he does for us.  Seriously, it’s dangerous enough without idiots that are out of control.

Who is this guy? I guess we will never know.

So we got David Rundblad.  He plays one game and gets an assist.  And then sits every other game.  What the fuck?  If we aren’t going to use him, let him go to the AHL and get the practice.  He isn’t going to get better just practicing and getting no game experience.  The change from Euro to North American style requires actual game experience.  JESUS H CHRIST, USE HIM OR LET HIM GO.

On the up-side, OEL is becoming a little superstar.  Well, not QUITE yet, but he’s grown a ton since last year and we can’t function without him now.

Indispensable

We have an ultra surplus of Dmen.  Dmo has been sitting as a scratch lately, but that’s a lot of money to be paying him to eat popcorn.  With that contract and two seasons left, I doubt he’ll be able to be moved anywhere, unless the other team is INSANE.  So that leaves the Flames as a possibility  Rozy will likely go before the trade deadline for a scorer/secondary scorer if we are still in the race at that point.

And Rundblad?  Who the hell knows.  We wasted OEL’s rookie year last year, so I guess it’s David’s turn.

Cal O’Reilly has really grown on me.  After a very rough stretch upon his arrival, Cal has been a bit of a lifesaver with Marty and Boyd being dead.

Part of my discontent is still not having an owner.  The deadline has passed and the NHL can talk to other cities.  They say the plan isn’t to do that yet, but still……… ugh.  So few things seem to be going in the right direction with the team AND this continued drama?  Unbearable.

Another annoying thing is everyone talking about the “playoff atmosphere” of the Bruins game.  I’ve experienced “playoff atmosphere” and that was not it.  That was “having butts in the seats” and we should try it more often.   Games with less attendance have felt more playoff-ish than that game.   Trying to play it up as something it wasn’t is just pathetic.

Hopefully, it’ll get better.  If crazy superfan me is feeling MEH, it doesn’t bode well.

Ray Whitney found the fountain of youth.  It’s a bird bath in his backyard.  Ever seen a grown man bathe in a bird bath?  Good thing he’s Hobbit-sized.

Still hate Torres.  He displays a lack of good judgement…….. across settings.

Still love Mike Smith.  I’m 98% sure that “Mike Smith” is a name made up when he entered the witness relocation program, but whoever that dude really is, he’s my homeboy.  Also, if Russian guys in suits start asking you questions about a curly, mop-headed giraffe, you don’t know nothing, ya dig?

The Vrb is off to a rippin’ start.  I guess he and Whitney really do have something.  Aside from scoring, which he rocks at, Vrbo is just a really good all-around player.  I’m always taken aback with how nice of passes he makes and how defensively responsible he is.  He’s no one-trick pony.  He’s like that little monkey that can play 10 instruments at once.  I frickin’ love him.

Right now, we are playing zero centers that we had on the team last year.  Belanger and Fiddy flew the coop, Turris forgot who he was, and now Marty is hurt.

MARTY IS HURT.  OH THE HUMANITY!  WHY GOD?  TOO MUCH CHANGE.  CANNOT HANDLE.  MUST HAVE SUPERSIZED CZECH BACK.  NOW.

My seat neighbors are ready for when Chipchurra scores with their chip-chip-chooray cheer.  My cheer for him is Chip-Chip-GoTheHellToPortlandIWantMieleBackYouHack.  It has a certain ring to it.

Shane Doan on Mantracker……… all I could think was…….RUN!  And Thank God Shane’s hair isn’t like Brook’s.  Bahahahahaha.

Klesla, you studmeister.  Soooooo under-rated.  He and I are going to have to have a little discussion at the meet the team event about this no visor bullshit.  If I have to hold him down and forcibly attach a visor to his helmet while he is wearing it, I will.  Rostya, do you want to make the choice or have me come at you with a screwdriver……

Yandle’s end of the game high fives/handshakes are getting more and more complex.  They for sure take up 24% of his total brain capacity.  He has to concentrate wicked hawd.

I love Boeds and parts of his game have grown, but finishing around the goal has not.  How frustrating for him.

Lauri Korpikoski should be the mold from which hockey players are made.  He is another one with a ridiculous all-around game.  Him and the Vrb!  #EuropeanBias

Schlem’s physical play has significantly increased lately, possibly as the return of Rozy nears and he doesn’t want to be the one to sit.  He straight up abused the Oiler’s Kid Line.  BULLY.

Speaking of Rozy, I haven’t missed him or even really noticed he’s been gone.  As an expensive UFA, look for him to be a rental player traded by the deadline.  Also, KLESLA, Y U NO AFRAID OF WHAT HAPPEN TO ROZY?  PUT VISOR ON! YOU HAVE A BABY NOW!  BABY NO WANT CYCLOPS FOR DAD, SCHOOL IS HARD ENOUGH TO LIVE THROUGH WHEN YOU HAVE TWO-EYED DAD!

Olli.  The offense quieted down but those rookie mistakes are no where to be seen.  Impressive change in just one off-season.

I do not think that my streak of never going to jail would have survived if we had not won this game.  With everything that has gone wrong, all the ownership that has been drug out to the uber max, and just…….. karma, we needed to win this game.   We have a history of choking in the home opener.  Oh God.

Daymond Langkow, you are a friggen hero for scoring 34 seconds into this game.  It shut the Jets fans up.  It energized the Yotes fans.  You may have, in fact, saved the day for us.  I am eternally grateful.  ETERNALLY.

1.  Oliver Oscar Emanuel Ekman-Larsson demonstrated play that WILL MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE for the coaching staff to scratch him.  HE IS MADE OF …… umm…… SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE SCATCHED.  HE IS A DIAMOND.  AND DIAMONDS ARE A GIRLS BEST FRIEND.  OMG OLLI’S MY BEST FRIEND!

Two goals and responsible defensive play for the Kid.  He was sooooooooo freaking excited that my heart about leapt out of my chest and scaled the glass!  You’re amazeface!

He only looks for pictures when his best friend takes them. BFF!

2.  Mike Smith and I are homies.  We are Bert and Ernie, if Ernie was a girl named AJ.  I was very skeptical.  I’m not really a goalie-kinda girl (other than BB Goalie, who I apparently tell to his face that I love him).  But when Evander Kane took Mike Smith out, I wanted to shank him.  SHANK.  I only shank for my homies.  IMMA FIGHT EVANDER KANE IN AN ALLEY.

Maybe Olli and I will invite Mike out when we have best friend adventures.  Maybe.

I love that Smith stands on the blue line for the national anthems. He's just a dude. Also, dude, Dmo, learn personal space.

3.  I’m looking into Boyd Gordon’s geneology in hopes that he has some Czech or Finn heritage because it feels like he needs to be under my umbrella of luv.  He’s just so………….  Boyd.  And kinda……………… dude-ish.  A hard worker and will do anything. He reminds me of Lauri.

All these dudes have scored at least a goal in the scrimmages and have had pretty successful camps so far.  I’m totally pulling for Kurtis and Brendan to get contracts.

Andrew Fritsch is staying in Phx because he’s a bit banged up.  Hopefully it’s not too serious and he can be up and at ‘em for main camp.  He WAS laying by the pool, according to his tweets, so he can’t be DYING.    Holy crap, he’s a 1993 baby and so is Harrison Ruopp ………….. and then we have Adrian Aucoin who was born in 1973.  Main camp is going to be hilarious!

Is it weird that our new goalie dude, Marc Cheverie isn’t on the list to be invited to main camp?  Anyone?  I mean, Louie and Mark totally did better, but it seems like all our dudes under contract were invited.  Weird.

Last year, BB Goalie was due to be cut and sent back to his junior team but he played so well in his rookie game that he played himself into camp.  Don’t read too much into the main camp roster just yet!

The main camp schedule also came out.  MONDO amounts of hockey this weekend.  Like 4-5 hours each day!  My butt is gonna be sore from sitting and my hands are gonna be sore from f-ing around with my camera.  Can’t wait to get pics of the newbie rookies with the veterans.  #Starstruck

Today was my last day to attend rookie camp, as I seem to have a job that I need to actually be at sometimes.  Coaches canceled practice and instead they focused on scrimmaging.  The boys were less hit-happy today but there were still butts all over the ice and not always from hits.  Brandon fully tripped over the blue line with no one within ten feet of him.   A GHOST PUSHED HIM OVER!

The first half was scoreless but then Visentin let in two goals and I was like YES!  Then BB Goalie let in three straight goals and I was like GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.  The scrimmage ended with the Red team winning again, 4-3.  Winning goal was a slick pass by Andy and Chris Collins went roof (looked like Vrby’s shootout!).  Collins also had a goal yesterday so he seems to be having a good camp.

Louie and Mark both look better than our new dude, Cheverie, but they also spent part of August at the Team Canada development camp so they may be a bit less rusty than the new dude?

The boys are scrimmaging tomorrow and then they are taking the long bus ride to LA for the two rookie games.  They’re only taking about 15 forwards and 8 Dmen so it will be interesting to see if they take more of the tryout kids and leave guys home that will for sure be going to main camp (Miele, Hextall, Gormley, Stone) so they have more time to see the new kids.  Miele’s twitter sounded like he was bus-bound so, who knows.

It’s always cool to see the prospects and how their skills have grown over the course of a year and see what the new guys have, but I’m ready for main camp.  Out of the tryout kids, I’m hoping we hold onto Chris Collins, Kurtis Gabriel, and Brandon Shinnimin.  None of them are very big, but welcome to the Coyotes forwards, right?  Big dudes need not apply.  I kinda wish we could keep them all and just stock them all in our ECHL team, but alas we cannot.

IT'S NOT FUNNY SUMMERS

It turns out that it was worth it.  The scrimmage was liiiiiiively.  The new boards have a ton of give, we found out early as Mike Stone nailed Andrew Fritsch into them.  WHOA NELLY!

The red team had more experienced offensive players and the white team had some stud Dmen so it should have been pretty evenly matched.  It wasn’t.  Red team shut out the White team so offense wins out in the end.  Did ya see that Tippett?  OFFENSE.

Andy Miele continues to be completely ridiculous.  Can we just hand him a ticket to main camp and tell him to take a breather?

Go directly to camp. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.

With the scrimmage being the first time that they were allowed to hit each other, I swear to God they were going OUT OF THEIR WAY to throw hits.  I literally cringed when big Blake Millman took Gonch off his skates.  HE TOOK GONCH OFF HIS SKATES!  Max is huge!

Ruopp was also throwing himself around a little bit.  While he’s not bulky, he goes in head first man, how can you not love that?

Evan Bloodoff completely reminds me of a gnat that has serious ADHD.  He’s here, he’s there.  He has the puck, he’s getting the puck, he’s chasing the puck, he’s stealing the puck, he’s EATING the puck…….. dude, he must have an IV of Mt. Dew at intermission.

Michael Stone was also laying out some big hits during the scrimmage.  He may have the most balance between offensive skills and brute force of any of the Dmen.

The Red team had Spencer, Andy, and Brett on their first line.   Sometimes they’d throw Darian out there with them.  The White team had Evan, Andrew, and I think Kale.  OMG KALE!

Kale is a tough ass customer.  He can drive the net and isn’t scared to hang out.

The rookie camp is something different for each kid.  For some, it’s a chance to audition for a contract.  For others, it’s to raise up a notch in the mind of the GM.  And finally, for kids like Andy, Gonch, and Brandon, it’s just a warm up before main camp, where they will be fighting to unseat someone from a roster spot.  Kids like Andrew Fritsch and Lucas Lessio are fresh out of the draft, but at the other end of the spectrum, it seems like Michael Stone and Mathieu Brodeur have been here forevs, so the level of nerves on the first day was going to be a fairly vast spectrum.

Umm did she imply that I'm elderly. Try "learned scholar" instead.

OH MY FREAKING GOD THE ROOKIES ARE HERE.  THIS MEANS……… BB GOALIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.  WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  HE WAS STILL GOALIE.  HE WAS STILL BB.  EVERYTHING IS ONCE AGAIN RIGHT IN THE WORLD.

Andy may not be our BEST choice for screening the goalie, eh?

Andy Miele was obviously going to come as advertised.  He completely stood out amongst the forwards in the first practice.  He can snipe a goal.  He can protect the puck with his (rather small) body.  Apparently it really ISN’T the size, it’s how you use it.  Who’da thunk it?!?!    He’s not small, he’s fun-sized.  He was quick and when everyone else was out of gas and leaning over, Andy was still cruising.  He worked his ass off this summer with @SyphusTraining and it showed.

Let’s talk about Brandon Gormley.  I am so freaking high on this kid.  His skating, his positional defense, his hands…….. there isn’t a downside that he’s shown yet.  While he isn’t the biggest guy, he can come out of the corner with the puck.  That’s some Jedi mind trick crap right there.  I can’t wait to see how he is able to hang in pro camp next week.  It’s a bloody shame that he has to go back to Juniors because I think he would make the AHL his bitch this season if he went to Portland.

Minor side note:  having 35 prospects is freakin’ insane and must have melted my brain because I somehow got ZERO pictures of Darian’s hair.  WTF AJ?  And I got 9000 pictures of Andrew and Blake because I sent them to their moms.  I need to start running a service man!

Max:  Max is a big boy.  I would not want Max angry with me.  However, while he’s a good stay at home Dman, when compared with Gormley, his offensiveness isn’t what I had it in my brain that he possessed.  That’s fine, with Yands, OEL, Stone, and Gormley, we have enough Dman that are gonna go all frickin’ cowboy in the offensive end.  He had a slightly tough time with the skate at the end of practice so it’s good that he’ll get more endurance before main camp.

Phil is ded. He feels like he's in Miracle. Again. Again. AGAIN!

Some other minor notes:

Andrew Fritsch showed off some pretty decent hands on some of his goals.  He can put the puck where he needs it to go.

While it was just the first day, none of the tryout kids really stuck out.

Nick Ross has been at this camp forever.  Nick Ross will continue to be at this camp forever?

Chris Summers may be one of the coolest people on the planet.

Colin Long may be victim of the abundance of centers we have and be in Gwinnett.

Evan Bloodoff is still the bees knees.

Brett Hextall and Kale Kessy are scrappy, tough dudes that I’d want on my team.

I would undo the trade with the Rangers to give back Ethan Werek so we get back Oscar Lindberg.

A comment heard at camp today: “Does Mathieu Brodeur even want to be here, cuz he isn’t skating like he does”.

None of the goalies looked too amazing cuz they had to do double practice duty so in the event of a tie the decision always goes to……………………. BB GOALIE!
